COLOGNE
& ROME PILGRIMAGE TOUR:
Program #302
August
14 to 24, 2005
11 days / 9 nights
Long
before efforts were made to unite Europe economically and politically and
long before the flocks of tourists, men have crossed borders in order to
reach the large places of pilgrimage. At these holy places, they hope to gain a new sense of the message
given to them by their belief. The
strain and occurrences that they experience on their way there give them
more insight. Their experiences at the holy place itself provide many people with
new strength and energy for the story they hear of the shrine - the
rituals that are held and the praying people - all create an atmosphere in
which the soul can open and find peace. Europe
is rich in places of pilgrimage. There
are large places to which millions make their pilgrimages and there are
innumerable regional shrines to which people from neighbouring areas or
from the region wend their way.
All
these places have one thing in common: They
provide spiritual consolation and new strength for living.
Experience Europe in the footsteps of the pilgrims!

We
transfer by coach to Dusseldorf for our flight to Rome. We
arrive in Rome and are met by our tour escort. We pass via the Apian
Way and enjoy a panoramic tour of the city while our rooms are
prepared at the hotel. We will see some of the sites of Ancient
Rome, including the Forum and the Colosseum, built the Emperors of the
Flavian Dynasty in the first century after Christ and originally
named the Flavian Amphitheatre. Colosseum refers to the
"colossal" statue of Nero that at one time stood at the
entrance. We will drive by the Forum and go into the Colosseum.
We then proceed to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, the largest
church in Rome dedicated to the Blessed Mother. Then, we proceed to
our hotel for check-in.
