Our
group will meet at Pearson International Airport for our flight with Air
Canada to Prague. Meals will be served in flight.
Day
2: Prague
History,
art, culture and shopping converge in this truly magnificent city.
From the imposing castle overlooking the city to the cobblestone
streets and squares of the Old Town, Prague offers attractions and over
4,000 monuments to appreciate at leisure. The
Christmas markets and fairytale atmosphere welcome you tonight as we
explore Prague’s Christmas scene. Dinner on your own this
evening.
Day 3:
Prague
This
morning our local guide shows us the highlights of "Golden
Prague", spreading either side of the Vltava River. From the lofty
heights of Prague Castle, dominated by the spires of St. Vitus' Cathedral,
we look down on the Old Town, the origins of one of the best preserved
medieval cities in the world.
See Wencelas Square, picturesque Mala Strana and stroll across the
romantic Charles Bridge.
Time this afternoon to shop for renowned Czech crystal and
beautiful handcrafted goods. Now is the time to grab a sausage and sample
some of the world’s best beers from the many local taverns at the
brightly decorated Christmas markets! If we're lucky, we might even see
school children in traditional dress, who come to dance and sing for the
crowd. (B)
Day
4: Nuremberg
Drive
from Prague through the pastoral countryside to Nuremberg, home of
Europe's oldest and largest Christmas market. There is time to visit the
Christmas market, where over 100 red and white canvas-topped booths offer
an assortment of toys, tinsel angels, dolls, dollhouses and gingerbread,
before boarding our ship. The crew of the ms Amadeus Amalegro is
waiting to welcome you on board. Join your fellow travelers and crew on
the ship tonight for welcome cocktails. (B, D)
Day
5: Nuremberg - Hipoltstein
Enjoy
a guided morning tour of historic Nuremberg with its fabulous Gothic
churches and elegant patrician houses telling the tale of a wealthy
and educated populace. This is
one of Europe’s oldest and largest cities.
See the storybook 900-year-old ramparts that surround the city, the
Imperial Castle and the Justice Place where the War Crimes Tribunal sat in
1946. At lunchtime, set sail along the Main-Danube Canal, crossing the
Continental Divide at Hipoltstein. Informative lectures this afternoon on
the canal project. This evening,
relax and enjoy on board entertainment. (B,
L, D)
Day
6: Regensburg
This morning takes you
through the final stretch of the Main-Danube Canal. We stop in Regensburg.
This ancient Roman town is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in
Germany – a true living museum. Regensburg’s historic city centre
contains many architectural highlights including the Cathedral of St.
Peter, churches, cloisters, the Old Town Hall and the 12th century stone
bridge – the first to be built over the Danube.
During free time you can
visit the festive Christmas market.
Folklore
performance this evening. (B, L, D)
Day
7: Passau - Linz (optional visit to Salzburg)
Early this morning the ship
takes you through scenic valleys and past charming riverside towns. After
breakfast, arrive in Passau, where the rivers Inn and Ilz join the Danube.
During your walking tour, gaze at this fairy-tale city founded more than
2,000 years ago. Optionally, board a motor coach for an exciting full-day
tour to Salzburg and its most popular Sound of Music sights. Salzburg
is architecturally and scenically one of the most beautiful cities in
Europe, with possibly more masterpieces of Baroque architecture per square
mile than any other city in the world. For
those staying on board, enjoy a relaxing day of cruising. On arrival in
Linz, there is time to visit the jolly Christmas market.
(B, L, D)
Day
8: Linz - Melk - Vienna
Cruise
through the narrow strudengau and reach the Wachau Valley early this
morning. A guided tour takes you to Melk's magnificent Benedictine Abbey,
one of Europe's largest Baroque monasteries. Continue cruising through the
romantic Wachau Valley, dotted with magnificent castles and charming
riverside
towns. Arrive in Vienna, the "City of Music". Tonight explore
the vibrant Austrian capital on your own or come along for an optional
concert. (B, L, D)
Day
9: Vienna
A
wonderful day to savour the Baroque elegance of Vienna. A centre of
classical music, art, theatre and history, Vienna is the city of the
waltz, the Spanish Riding School and the sacher torte. The Imperial
capital of the Hapsburg Empire for centuries, Vienna is graced with a
spectacular array of Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical monuments. Our
guided tour includes lavish Hofburg Palace, the impressive Vienna Opera
House, majestic Ringstrasse and awe-inspiring St. Stephen's Cathedral.
Afterward, there is plenty of time to shop in the festive Christmas
markets throughout the city. (B, L, D)
Day
10: Vienna - Budapest
We continue our cruise along the river with our destination
being elegant Budapest, the "Queen of the Danube”.
Budapest straddles the
banks of the majestic Danube River and is one of the finest capital cities
in Europe. The city has two personalities which contrast beautifully in
architecture, style and geography. Buda is built upon hills, two of the
most famous being
Castle Hill and Gellért Hill,
standing firmly to the water. Facing it is Pest, which is as flat as a
pancake. Several areas of the city have been afforded the UNESCO World
Heritage Site classification. A
local guide acquaints us with this grand metropolis.
We admire the view from the Fisherman's Bastion, and visit Matthias
Church, with its incredible interior decoration. Now another fine view
from the old citadel on Gellert Hill, before we cross the Danube into the
commercial Pest district to see the grandiose Parliament building and
imposing statues of the ancestors of the Hungarian people in Heroes'
Square. The Christmas market is situated on Vörösmarty Square in the
heart of Pest and is awash with colourful market stalls and an outdoor
stage with festive-themed shows. The Christmas market itself displays a
whole range of traditional arts and crafts ideal as Christmas gifts. Tonight
gather on board for a Gala Farewell Dinner with gypsy
violin music. (B, L, D)
Day
11: Toronto

gorgeous ship and crew as we depart for the airport and our
